Gay-Kimball Public Library
Troy's Library is among the busiest in Cheshire County, with over 11,500 patron visits annually.
A library has existed in Troy since 1825 -- only ten years after the Town was founded -- and the community has showed its support ever since. A dedicated library building was constructed in 1952 and enlarged in 1972. In 1999 the Library was again renovated and expanded to provide 5,000 square feet on three levels, all fully accessible by an elevator.
About half of the Town's 2,100 citizens hold a library card and many others are browsers and information seekers. The library's meeting room is in high demand -- various local groups utilized it about 130 times during 2001. Story & craft time, a book discussion group, holiday parties, and the summer reading program are regular favorites. Last year the library sponsored 78 events for children and 19 events for adults.
The Library's collection totals about 20,000 items including books, videos, and books on tape, and the Library's annual circulation is about 20,000. Two computers with high-speed Internet connectivity and word processing are available for patron use. The Library participates in the New Hampshire Automated Information System for interlibrary loan (State Library Link).
Library staff consists of a director and two part-time assistants. Regular volunteers provide additional coverage. In 2001, library open hours were expanded by 18 percent. Currently the Library is open 22 hours per week. Trust fund income, book sales, and other fundraising efforts supplement the money raised for the Library by taxation.
